Today's alumni update focuses on former Capitols forward Jake Dunlap. Dunlap is currently a freshman at the University of New Hampshire. The New Hampshire native played with the Caps last season as part of the team that brought Madison their first ever Clark Cup Final appearance.
Prior to his junior hockey career, Dunlap laced 'em up for New Hampton School, which is a college preparatory high school in New Hampton, New Hampshire. In his final season at the prep school, he recorded 27 points in 32 games. His skill and performance in his home state propelled him to get drafted into the USHL for the following season.
Dunlap made his USHL debut for the team that drafted him, the Fargo Force, in December of 2019. It wouldn't be until February of 2020, though, when Dunlap became a mainstay in the Force lineup. Of course, following the February of 2020, the league shutdown due to the pandemic. He played in 6 games for the Force during the 2020-21 season before making his way to the NAHL with Janesville and Northeast.
Following the 2020-21 season, Dunlap found himself with an opportunity to come back into the USHL with the Caps. He jumped on that right away and ended up playing in 57 regular season games with Madison during the 21-22 campaign, recording 46 points. Dunlap and the rest of the Capitols earned themselves a spot in the Clark Cup playoffs where the team ran the table to the organization's first Eastern Conference title. During the playoffs, Dunlap registered six goals and twelve points in the fourteen playoff games played.
Since his time in Madison, Dunlap has returned home to suit up for his homestate's college, the University of New Hampshire of Hockey East. In 15 games with UNH this season, Dunlap has recorded two points. He looks to be a big part of the Wildcats future as he has played in just under 75% of the team's games as a freshman.
