The Capitols were able to capture victory in game one of the two-game series against Muskegon. Madison looked to continue the winning ways and pick up the first sweep for the season for the team.
A different set of goaltenders started on Saturday as Geisel and Musser took the reins of the position for each team respectively. With that, a completely different outlook early on in Saturday's game. Madison took just south of forty minutes to find a pair of goals on Friday, but on Saturday, it took only 7:15 as Finn Brink and Austin Burnevik found twine to make the Caps lead 2-0 early. The Lumberjacks were able to answer with a pair of their own by the end of period number one to skate even into intermission.
Heading into Saturday night, the Capitols had not trailed heading into the second intermission this season. That is no longer the case with the Lumberjacks able to strike twice in the middle frame to lead 4-2 at the break.
In the third, it was the Lumberjacks finding the lone tally of the period to take home a 5-2 win. The loss for Madison is the first regulation loss of the season. Muskegon moves within one point of the second place Capitols who stay only one point back of first place.
The Capitols end the three-game home stand on Friday to face off against the defending Clark Cup Champion Youngstown Phantoms. It's our second Dollar Beer Night of the season presented by Coors Light. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
