The Capitols announced on Monday morning that the team has called Diego Johnson up from the team's affiliated list to the active roster. Johnson is committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin.
Johnson, a native of Fort St. James, British Columbia, averaged just under a point per game this season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the AJHL. Prior to this season, Johnson had played in the BCHL with the Merritt Centennials. Johnson, along with Caps affiliated player Ronan Buckberger, helped Canada West take home gold at the World Junior A Challenge in December.
The forward was selected as part of a very productive 2023 Phase II Draft Class for the Capitols. Among the team's first ten selections in the draft, eight of them are on the active roster heading into this weekend including Johnson. The eight active skaters among the first ten picks is first in the league for a staff that took over the day prior to the USHL Draft.
Johnson will wear number 6 with the team.
Johnson is set to make his Capitols debut this weekend as the team hosts the Green Bay Gamblers for a two-game series. On Friday, it's the team's first annual Mitten Toss presented by Alliant Energy. After our first goal, fans are encouraged to throw mittens on the ice to donate to those in need this winter. Then, on Saturday, it's our Mascot Mania presented by American Family Insurance. Join DC and all of his friends as it should be a family-fun-filled night. Tickets for this weekend's games, and all Caps games, can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
MC84 memberships, group tickets and experiences, suites, and other premium areas are now on sale. Gain access to these areas by calling the front office at 608-257-2277.Â
