The Capitols opened the weekend with a 6-3 win over Dubuque on Friday night at Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena.
Sam Kappell scored twice, including the game-winner early in the third period, while Max Rider recorded a goal and two assists. Gavin Uhlenkamp picked up a career-high three helpers as Madison improved to 6-4-0-0 on the season.
Kappell got the scoring started midway through the first off a setup from Rider and Uhlenkamp. Dubuque tied it on the power play, and the teams went into the break even at one.
The second period saw both sides cash in on special teams. After the Saints took the lead short-handed, Tyden Bergeson responded on the power play less than a minute later to make it 2-2.
Kappell's second of the night gave Madison the lead for good early in the third. Chris Baird-Gajos added his first USHL goal midway through the frame, and Rider extended the margin with a late power-play tally. John Stout sealed the victory with an empty-netter for his first of the season.
Caleb Heil picked up the win in goal. Forward Harper Frey left the game early due to injury.
