Weekend Preview: Madison Hits the Road to NTDP

Madison enters play this weekend with a 10-6-0-2 record on the season.

The Capitols make their lone trip to Plymouth of the season to face off against the NTDP's U17 team this weekend. Madison defeated the NTDP in the two teams first matchup of the season 8-1 on October 3rd.

WEEKEND RECAP
The Capitols hosted the first-placed Muskegon Lumberjacks last weekend. Friday, the Capitols held two one-goal leads in the game, but the Lumberjacks had an answer to each goal. Madison dominated overtime, but every shot sent on goal was stopped by Carl Axelsson. The game went into a shootout where Muskegon found the lone goal to grab the extra point. Saturday, Muskegon jumped out in front first and had two separate leads in the first period. Madison found their rhythm after the first intermission, and grabbed a total of three unanswered goals to come away with a 4-2 victory. The three-point weekend extended the Capitols point streak to six games.

O' SAY CAN YOU SEE
The younger of the two NTDP teams enters this weekend's games with a 1-6-2-0 record against USHL competition and a 8-6-4-0 record overall. The U17s have not faced a USHL teams since October 25th due to the team competing in international play at the World U17 Challenge in Nova Scotia. The U17's lone win in USHL play came against Muskegon on October 10th where they came from behind to win 4-3. In USHL play, the U17s are led by Brayden Willis who has six points in seven games. Overall, Willis has 23 points in sixteen games played with the team. Carter Meyer, 20, and Nolan Fitzhenry, 18, join him as the only other two skaters with double digit points.

SIX-SEVEN? CAPS LOOK TO EXTEND POINT STREAK
Madison carries a season-long six-game point streak into the weekend. This is the longest streak since March of this year when the Capitols won seven straight. The team has been rolling during the streak outscoring opponents 22-15. The streak is the longest active streak in the league by two games and is tied for the fourth longest in the league this season. Last season, Madison had the second longest point streak in the league at twelve games spanning from January 24-February 23, lasting 30 days.

2009-BIRTH YEAR'S YOU SAY?
With the Capitols facing off against a team filled with 2009 born skaters, this is as great of time as any to highlight Madison's two U17 players, Stephen Cover and Michael Tang. Cover and Tang both signed tenders in the offseason with Madison. Cover has played in all but two games for the Capitols recording four points on the season. Only missing four games due to playing with Team USA at the World U17 Challenge, Michael Tang is one of seven players with double digit points clicking at a 0.71 points per game rate, tied for third on the team. Tang has a four-game point streak entering this weekend's games against the NTDP.

SPECIAL TEAMS, SPECIAL PLAYS, SPECIAL PLAYERS
Madison's penalty kill has been red hot in the month of November. The team has killed off the past seven times that they have been sent shorthanded. Overall in the month, the Capitols penalty kill is 17 for 19 clicking at a 89.5% rate. While the penalty kill has succeeded, the power play has struggled. Madison is 4 of 21 on the man advantage in November clicking at a 19.0% rate. If you took the rates that each unit is clicking at and put them versus other team's full season ratings, the Capitols would rank first in penalty kill and eleventh in power play.

TEAMMATE CONNECTIONS
The connections between Stephen Cover and the NTDP U17 team. Cover alongside Rocco Pelosi, Brayden Willis, Christian Semetsis, and Nate Chizik helped Mount St. Charles capture a national championship at the 15O level last season. The championship was actually won at Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena, the home of the Capitols. Much of the same group helped win the Mounties win a championship at the 14U level the year prior. Along with Cover, Michael Tang has directly played with the entire U17 roster at the World U17 Challenge in Nova Scotia earlier this month.

Both games have a scheduled puck drop time of 6:00 pm CT with coverage being found on USA Hockey TV.
