12/27 Game Recap Waterloo

Caps Fall 2-0 to Waterloo in First Game Back After Break

The Capitols and Black Hawks faced off for the third time this season on Saturday night; the Caps lead the season series, 2-0. Madison was without two players in this one, as goalie Caleb Heil and forward Gustavs Griva are in Minnesota competing at the World Junior Championship. Heil is representing Team USA; Griva, Team Germany. Call-ups Elliot Lennon and Bryce Wiitala filled the vacant roster spots for the Capitols.

In a low-scoring affair, Waterloo struck first. Salvatore Viviano lit the lamp late in the first period to give the Black Hawks a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. After a scoreless second period, Waterloo would tally another goal late in the third, when Adyn Merrick registered his 8th goal of the year on the empty net.

Madison would get shut out for the second time this year and fall to the Black Hawks, 2-0. Cash Cruitt and Brady Krey split time between the pipes. Cruitt padded away 6 of the 7 shots sent his way. Krey kept the crease clean and saved all 12 shots fired at him.

Madison returns home on Sunday to face the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
