The Madison Capitols stayed hot Friday night, defeating the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 3-1 at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena to extend their win streak to four games. With back-to-back home wins, Madison will now head to Dubuque on Saturday to close out a three-in-three weekend.
After a scoreless first period, Aiden Long opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the second frame, netting his 21st goal of the season off a setup from Gavin Uhlenkamp. Later in the period, Diego Johnson extended the Capitols' lead to 2-0 at 16:58, burying a feed from Bobby Cowan and Egor Barabanov.
Cedar Rapids cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the third period with a goal from Heath Nelson, but Madison's defense held strong down the stretch. Sam Kappell sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:59, assisted by Uhlenkamp, who finished with two points on the night.
Madison looks to keep their momentum going as they hit the road for a Saturday night showdown with the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
