Caps Come Up Short, Fall for Second Straight Night in Youngstown

Madison falls to 30-14-3-1 on the season.

The Madison Capitols couldn't solve the Youngstown Phantoms for the second night in a row, falling 4-1 on Sunday at the Covelli Centre.

Youngstown took control early, as Landan Resendes opened the scoring at 4:50 of the first period. The Phantoms doubled their lead later in the frame when Brecken Smith struck at 12:43, putting Madison in a 2-0 hole after 20 minutes.

The Phantoms extended their advantage in the second, with Ryan Rucinski netting his 10th goal of the season at 17:41 to make it 3-0. Madison found a spark in the third period when Diego Johnson broke through at 7:07, finishing a setup from Bobby Cowan. However, Rucinski responded with his second goal of the night at 12:21, sealing the 4-1 final.

With the loss, Madison drops to 30-14-3-1 on the season. The Capitols will look to bounce back as they face Youngstown once again on Monday to wrap up the three-game series.
