In a goaltending masterpiece,
Caleb Heil turned aside all 30 shots he faced, backstopping the Madison Capitols to a 1-0 shutout win over the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday night at the Covelli Centre.
Heil's flawless performance marked his second shutout of the season, tying the franchise's single-season record for shutouts. The Capitols leaned on their netminder throughout the night, as both teams battled through a scoreless first two periods.
The breakthrough finally came early in the third period when
Charlie Michaud buried a power-play goal at 3:51, finishing a setup from
Egor Barabanov and
Diego Johnson. That lone tally proved to be enough, as Heil and the Capitols' defense shut the door the rest of the way to secure the hard-fought victory.
With the win, Madison improves to 31-14-3-1 on the season. The Capitols will look to build on this momentum as they continue their push down the stretch.
