Following a two-game sweep of Green Bay in the first round, the Capitols kicked off their second round of the playoffs on Friday night traveling to Dubuque.
Caleb Heil went a perfect 23 for 23 in goal to pick up the first postseason shutout in Capitols Tier I history.
After no goals were scored through two periods, Madison found the lone goal of five-on-five hockey of the night early on in the third from
Finn Brink.
Ryker Lee and
John Stout help set up the goal for the Caps. Both Lee and Brink had assists on
Mason Moe's empty net goal late in the game to make it 2-0. The top line all exited play on Friday night with four points in the playoffs.
Sam Kappell added another empty net goal for the Caps as Madison skated away with a 3-0 victory.
The Capitols moved to 6-1 all time in Game 1's in the team's Tier I history, dating back to 2014.Â
Madison will once again face Dubuque on Saturday in Game 2. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on the road.
