The 2025 NHL Draft wrapped up on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. Three Capitols players from the 2024-25 season were selected in the draft, which ties the second most in franchise history with the 1989 draft.
Ryker Lee became the first Madison player selected in the first round of the draft on Friday night. At pick number 26, he was selected by the Nashville Predators becoming the first Caps player taken by Nashville in the organization's history.
Lee registered 68 points last season earning the Rookie of the Year honors in the league along with All-USHL First Team honors. The Wilmette, Illinois, native will play at Michigan State next season.
Day two of the draft had a pair of Capitols selected including forward
Mason Moe and goaltender
Caleb Heil. Moe became the fourth highest selected Capitols player in team history by being selected by New Jersey with the 90th overall selection.
Moe registered 43 points in 51 games with the Capitols last season putting him for a tie for fifth on the team in scoring. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native will play with the University of Minnesota next season.
The final selection for Madison of the draft was
Caleb Heil at pick 193 by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Heil broke multiple team records in 2024-25 while playing with the Capitols including winning 25 games.
The North Dakota committed goaltender becomes the second goaltender in three seasons selected in the NHL Draft for Madison joining
Carsen Musser in 2023. Heil is set to play with the Capitols once again in 2025-26.
