The Madison Capitols unveiled their roster for the 2025-26 season on Wednesday ahead of the team's first game of the season on Saturday against Lincoln. The opening team consists of 22 skaters and a trio of goalies, which is a first for the Capitols under Andy Brandt.

Among the 25 players listed below, fifteen played in games for Madison during the team's record breaking 2024-25 campaign. The back end leads the charge with all eight defensemen playing in games last season for Madison. That includes Wisconsin commit John Stout who led the USHL in plus-minus rating last season at a +44.


Caleb Heil is the lone goaltender for the team that has experience. The North Dakota commit broke the team record for wins in a single-season last spring registering 25 victories on the season. Although, Heil is listed on the opening roster for the team, he will not be with the team in Pittsburgh at the USHL Fall Classic as he was named to the Tampa Bay Lightning Training Camp roster.

A Wisconsin commit and a Wisconsin native are the two top scorers returning for Madison this season. Gavin Uhlenkamp, a forward committed to the Badgers, leads the way among point production returning for the Capitols after putting up a career high 34 last season. Appleton native Sam Kappell follows close behind after playing with Uhlenkamp last season with 32 points in his first full season in the league.

For the first time in three seasons, the Capitols will have a Madison native on the team. Harper Frey, who played in the Capitols AAA youth association, will suit up for the Capitols on the roster during the 2025-26 season. The defenseman has played in eight games for Madison over the past two seasons as an affiliated player before making the team this fall.

The Capitols hit the road to the 2025 DICK'S Sporting Goods Fall Classic where the season starts for Madison. The team will face off against Lincoln on Saturday afternoon before a morning tilt with Fargo on Sunday. Both games will be streamed live on FloHockey.
