The Chicago Steel visited the Madison Capitols for the first time this season on Saturday night. Madison defeated Waterloo on home ice on Friday. Chicago was coming off of a win against Cedar Rapids.
After a scoreless first period, Steel forward James Scantlebury opened the scoring midway through the second. The Capitols would respond five minutes into the third period when Ronan Buckberger tallied his fifth goal of the season. Buckberger's goal would be the last in regulation, sending this one to overtime.Â
Neither team was able to find twine during the extra frame. Chicago was able to outlast Madison in a shootout, defeating the Capitols 2-1. Despite out shooting the Steel 43 to 15, Madison was unable to get anything past Steel goaltender Louis-Felix Charrois, who saved 42 of the 43 shots. Caleb Heil had a solid night between the pipes for Madison. He saved 14 of the 13 shots sent his way. Chicago returns to Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena on Sunday.
