Capitols Prevail in Overtime to Beat Steel 3-2

Madison and Chicago split their four-game series

The Madison Capitols traveled to Chicago on Saturday night to cap off a four-game series with the Steel. Chicago won the first two games of the series. Madison was able to hold off the Steel in game three, winning 5-2.

In a back-and-forth affair, the Steel were the first to strike in this one. Brady Kudrick dented the twine two minutes into the first period to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. Kudrick had the lone goal of the opening frame. In similar fashion to start the second period, Madison's Michael Tang got the Capitols on the board within the first two minutes. Chicago would answer later in the second when Ryland Rooney registered his ninth goal of the season.

With Madison trailing by one in the final frame, Capitols rookie Cooper Snee lit the lamp to tie the game at two apiece. Snee's goal would come in the 16th minute and was the lone goal of the third period, sending the game to overtime.

In the final minute of overtime, Snee set up fellow Providence College commit Stephen Cover, who buried it for his third game-winning goal this season. Caleb Heil put together another strong performance between the pipes. Heil padded away 23 of the 25 shots sent his way while standing tall for the full 64-minute game.

Madison is back home on Sunday afternoon to face the Dubuque Fighting Saints for the first time since October.
