The Madison Capitols hosted the Omaha Lancers on Friday night for the first of a two-game series to be played at Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena this weekend. This series will be the first and last time the Lancers and Capitols meet during the regular season. Madison looked to extend their win streak to four, while Omaha looked to get back in the winning column after dropping two games last weekend.
Omaha was able to get on the board first in this one when Ryan Aaronson scored his seventh goal of the year. Madison was quick to respond when Gustavs Griva set up his brother Rihards Griva, who cashed in to tally his fourth goal of the year. To close the first period, Gustavs Griva gathered a rebounding puck following a shot from Dexter Brooks and dented the twine to take a 2-1 Capitols lead into the first intermission.Â
Madison picked right back up to start the second period. It started with a Max Rider goal five minutes into the frame. Five minutes later Caleb Pittsley lit the lamp to extend the Madison lead to three. Omaha would later respond via a Cam Caron goal to cut the deficit back to two.Â
Rider registered his second goal of the game in the third period to seal the 5-2 win over the Lancers. Caleb Heil held steady between the pipes for Madison. The North Dakota commit denied 35 of the 37 shots sent his way, picking up his eighth win in his last 10 starts.Â
