The Omaha Lancers returned to Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena on Saturday night to face the Madison Capitols for the second time in as many days. Madison took game one last night. The Griva brothers led the charge with a goal apiece in a 5-2 win over the Lancers.
Like last night, Omaha was the first to score tonight. Hudson Kowalchuk lit the lamp at the 8:15 mark in the first period to give the Lancers the lead.
It was all Capitols after that. Jackson Nevers and Gustavs Griva both tallied goals later in the first period, giving the Capitols a 2-1 advantage heading into the first intermission.
The second period was owned by Capitols blueliner Ronan Buckberger. Skating in his 100th USHL game, the Ohio State commit registered two goals in the period, both assisted by Jet Kwajah. Buckberger's goals extended the Capitols' lead to three heading into the final frame.
Three minutes into the third period, Madison's leading goal scorer, Sam Kappell, buried his 20th goal of the season. Cooper Snee and Brady Arneson would trade goals to end the game, resulting in a 6-2 win for the Capitols.
Caleb Heil kept the crease clean for Madison. He padded away 27 of the 29 shots sent his way.
The Capitols complete the weekend sweep over the Lancers and improve to 23-14-0-3 on the season.
