The Madison Capitols returned to Scheels Arena on Saturday night to complete a two-game series with the Fargo Force. Despite both teams recording 21 shots on goal, the Force were able to connect on five of theirs, winning game one 5-1.
Fargo was the first to strike in this one, scoring the lone goal of the opening frame. After a scoreless second period, Fargo lit the lamp 14 seconds into the third to extend their lead to two. Madison would eventually get on the board shortly after when Stephen Cover corralled the puck off of a deflection and buried his ninth goal of the season. Madison was unable to capture any momentum from Cover's goal and fell to the Force 3-1 after Fargo added another goal late in the third period.
Caleb Heil was back between the pipes for the Capitols. He saved 20 of the 23 shots sent his way.
Madison will open up a four-game homestand next weekend starting with a pair of games against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
