The Madison Capitols hosted in-state rivals, the Green Bay Gamblers, on Sunday afternoon. Madison split a weekend pair with the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday and Saturday, while Green Bay handled Dubuque and Chicago.
Green Bay got the scoring started in this one, courtesy of a Landon Haefele goal early in the second period. This marks the third straight game the Capitols have played in where there was no scoring in the opening frame. Jet Kwajah was able to respond for Madison, scoring his second goal of the weekend. A minute later, Gamblers' leading goal scorer Zach Wooten would put Green Bay back on top while on the power play.
Green Bay was able to hold off Madison in the third period, winning this one 2-1. Gamblers goaltender Leo Henriquez turned away 42 of the 43 Capitols shots on goal.
On the flip side, Caleb Heil padded away 22 of the 24 shots sent his way. Cash Cruitt and Heil allowed just four goals over the weekend's three games, yet the Capitols were only victorious in one contest.
Next weekend, the Capitols have a home-and-home series with the Chicago Steel on Friday and Saturday, before visiting the Gamblers again on Sunday at the Resch Center.
