The USNTDP U18 team visited the Madison Capitols on Friday night for the first of a two-game set at Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena. Entering the weekend, Madison owned the season series, 3-0 over the USNTDP, and scored 21 goals across the three games.
The Capitols got the scoring started in this one as Caleb Pittsley netted his eighth goal of the season. The USNDTP would respond later in the first period with two goals of their own to take a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.
Madison struck first to open the second period as Eero Butella corralled a pass from Tyden Bergeson and dented the twine while on the power play. The USNTDP would tally another goal in response, regaining their one-goal lead entering the final frame.
The USNTDP would extend their lead to two to open the final frame courtesy of a Carter Myers shorthanded goal. Pittsley would add another goal late in the third period to keep Madison in the fight, but that was shortly followed by a Parker Trottier goal to secure the 5-3 win for the USNTDP.
The two teams will be back in action on Saturday night for the Capitols Cross-Check Cancer Night.
