The Madison Capitols skated past the Muskegon Lumberjacks 3-2 on Friday night in the first of a two-game set. Madison scored the game's first three goals before Muskegon answered with two of their own.
Caleb Pittsley opened the scoring for the Capitols, poking home a rebound in front to give Madison a 1-0 lead after one.
The Capitols added two more in the second period. Will Dosan picked off a Muskegon pass in the offensive zone and snapped a wrist shot home to make it 2-0. Midway through the frame, Lucas Prud'homme tracked down a loose puck and found a streaking John Stout, who buried his seventh goal of the season.
Down 3-0 to start the third period, Muskegon looked to spark a comeback, scoring just 19 seconds into the frame. Jack Christ added another midway through the period, but the Lumberjacks were unable to find the equalizer.
Caleb Heil faced 28 shots, stopping 26, and has now won three of his last four starts.
