Stout, Butella Lift Capitols Past Phantoms in Shootout

The Madison Capitols and Youngstown Phantoms squared off on Saturday night in a rubber match. Madison took game one on Thursday; the Phantoms were able to bounce back on Friday to take game two.

The Phantoms were responsible for the first two goals in this one. Cal Hutson and Evan Jardine gave Youngstown the 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission. Madison responded in the second period as Eero Butella and John Stout both registered their second goals of the weekend to tie the game at two apiece.

After a scoreless final frame and overtime, the game headed to a shootout. Butella and Stout stepped up for the Capitols yet again, both scoring goals during the shootout to secure the win.

Caleb Heil pieced together a gritty performance between the pipes for Madison. He saved 23 of the 25 shots he faced in regulation and did not let up a goal during the shootout.

Madison will host the USNTDP next weekend for a two-game set.
