The Madison Capitols squared off against the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday night in Game 1 of a best-of-three first-round series in the Clark Cup Playoffs.
Entering the night, Madison had not won at the Resch Center this season, going 0-4. Capitols goaltender Caleb Heil had not appeared in any of those games but got the start Friday, stopping 36 of 37 shots to lead Madison to the win.
Madison was outshot 37-13 but capitalized on its chances, scoring twice to Green Bay's one. Goals for the Capitols came from Harper Frey and Nolen Geerdes, both assisted by Minnesota's Mr. Hockey award winner, Tyden Bergeson.
The Capitols have won Game 1 in each of their last four playoff series under head coach Andy Brandt. Madison returns to the Resch Center on Saturday night for Game 2.
