Pittsley Strikes in Overtime, Capitols Advance

Madison sweeps Green Bay in round one of the Clark Cup Playoffs for the second year in a row

After defeating the Green Bay Gamblers in Game 1 of a best-of-three first-round series in the Clark Cup Playoffs, the Madison Capitols returned to the Resch Center on Saturday night for Game 2.

Game 1 came down to goal tending, and Game 2 followed a similar script. Capitols goaltender Caleb Heil made 25 saves to lead Madison to another win, completing a first-round sweep of Green Bay.

After a scoreless first period, Capitols forward Nolen Geerdes opened the scoring with his second goal of the series. Green Bay responded shortly after, as Zach Wooten tied the game at one.

Still tied 1-1 after regulation, the game went to overtime. Less than a minute into the extra frame, Caleb Pittsley scored the game-winning goal to send the Capitols to the second round. Tyden Bergeson picked up his third assist of the series on the play.

Madison has now swept Green Bay in the first round in back-to-back seasons and will face the No. 1 Youngstown Phantoms in the Eastern Conference Semifinals next weekend in a best-of-five series. The first two games will be played in Youngstown, with Game 3 at Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena in Madison. If necessary, Game 4 will also be held in Madison before the series returns to Youngstown for Game 5.
