Capitols Punch Ticket to Eastern Conference Finals

Madison eliminates Anderson Cup champions and advances to Conference Finals

The Madison Capitols met the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday night at Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena for Game 4 of a best-of-five series in the Clark Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinals. Entering the night, Madison led the series 2-1.

Madison's Eero Butella opened the scoring two minutes into the contest, recording his second goal of the postseason. The Phantoms responded early in the second period to tie the game at one. Shortly after, Nolen Geerdes scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, tallying his third of the postseason to secure the 2-1 win.

Caleb Heil stood tall for Madison, stopping 37 of 38 shots to earn his fifth win in his last six starts. Through the playoffs, Heil owns the best goals-against average (1.11) and save percentage (.966) in the league. He has faced 208 shots, allowing just seven goals.

Madison advances to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2022 and for the first time under head coach Andy Brandt. The Capitols will face the winner of the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Muskegon Lumberjacks.
