The Madison Capitols were on the road Friday night, facing the Muskegon Lumberjacks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The two teams split the regular-season series, with each side winning twice. Madison advanced after defeating Youngstown in four games, while Muskegon eliminated Dubuque in five.
After a scoreless first period, the Lumberjacks opened the scoring in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The third period belonged to the Capitols. Three minutes into the final frame, Jackson Nevers tied the game at one. In the final minute, Tyden Bergeson scored the game-winning goal to lift Madison to a 2-1 victory.
Caleb Heil stood tall for Madison, stopping 39 of 40 shots. The Capitols take a 1-0 series lead and will return to Trinity Health Arena on Saturday for Game 2.
