The Madison Capitols took control of the Eastern Conference Finals series against the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Friday night. After dropping Game 2 in Muskegon last weekend, the Capitols defended home ice in Game 3 with a 4-1 win to take a 2-1 series lead.
All of the scoring came in the final frame. Nolen Geerdes opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the postseason, giving Madison a 1-0 lead midway through the third period. The Lumberjacks responded with a goal of their own to tie the game at one with less than five minutes remaining.
It was all Madison from there. Caleb Pittsley scored his second postseason game-winning goal, while Tyden Bergeson and Sam Kappell each added empty-net goals to seal the win.
Caleb Heil faced 15 shots, stopping 14 to earn his seventh victory of the postseason.
Muskegon will return to Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena on Saturday for Game 4.
