Madison fell on Sunday afternoon 5-3 against Omaha in the final game of the 2026 USHL Fall Classic. The Capitols led 1-0 through the first period before the Lancers scored five of the next seven goals to grab their first win of the season.
The Capitols grabbed the lead in the first period with Bode McConnell picking up his first of the season 4:38 into the period. Bryce Wiitala grabbed his first USHL point with a primary assist on the goal. Daniel Halonen added his first point of the day on the secondary assist.
In the second period, Omaha grabbed three goals at the 5:57, 15:28, and 16:44 marks of the period to take the lead 3-1 with just a couple of minutes left in the period. Stephen Cover grabbed his first of the season at the 18:49 mark of the period from Nolen Geerdes and Logan Lutner to bring the Capitols within one at the break.
Omaha extended their lead all the way up to 5-2 with under four minutes remaining in the third period. Daniel Halonen grabbed his second of the season with under a minute to go in the third to bring Madison back within two before the buzzer sounded.
Elliot Lennon was 30/35 in the loss for Madison. A couple of the goals were ones that he would want back, as he tripped on one allowing a wide open net for the Lancer player to score.
The Capitols were without their captain, Max Rider, due to injury in the loss. Madison also did not have Rio Treharne in the lineup due to a suspension on a play against Sioux Falls on Saturday. Treharne will sit out of the first game in Muskegon early next month to finish his two-game suspension.
Madison has next weekend off before hitting the road to Muskegon in early October.
This marks the first time since 2022 that Madison did not pick up a win at the Fall Classic.
