2021-22: Ausmus played in 42 games during his rookie season in the USHL. He made his Caps debut during the team's first game of the season on September 23, 2021 against Des Moines. The East Grand Forks native would go on to record his first point for Madison on October 9th against Youngstown. Although his first point was an assist, the first goal for him would come within the same month on October 30, 2021 at the Resch Center in Green Bay. He recorded his first USHL fight on February 26, 2022, in a game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He would go on to put up a stat line of two goals and two assists on the season for a total of four points.

Prior to Joining Caps: Ausmus played for his hometown high school, the East Grand Forks Green Wave. He also played six games with the USNTDP U-17's during the 2020-21 season.
