Night one of a two-game series had Muskegon winning 5-3 over the Capitols. The Capitols returned to Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena on Saturday night in attempt of avenging the loss and splitting the series.
In the first period, the Lumberjacks found the first goal as two players found their way past the Madison defense. The Capitols responded well, outshooting Muskegon in the first 14-10, but were unable to find an evening tally in the first period.
The second period had its ups and downs for the Caps. Muskegon opened the second period scoring to extend their lead to 2-0. The game score stayed at two for less than five minutes of play with the Capitols finding themselves a power play goal on one of their two opportunities in the second period. Miko Matikka(6) was the goal scorer for the Capitols recording his sixth goal of the season, third on the man advantage. The teams took the 2-1 score into the locker room.
In the third, each team picked up a pair of goals, but it was not enough to come back and win on Saturday night. Goals in the third period came off the sticks of Jack Musa(6) and Miko Matikka(7) who lead the team in goals on the season.
The Capitols are back at it on the road next weekend against Dubuque and Chicago. You can follow along on the action on our social medias when we're on the road. Madison returns home on November 11th when they face off against Chicago.
