Following a tough loss on Friday night, the Capitols wrapped up a three-game home stand against Green Bay on Saturday. Madison needed a win in the home stand finale to come out with a .500 percentage home stand.
In the first period, it was all Capitols offensively putting up ten shots on goal in the first period while holding Green Bay to a mere three shots on goal. There were plenty more shot attempts for Green Bay, but the Capitols did a great job in the first to get in the way of Gamblers opportunities. Even with the Caps heavily outshooting the Gamblers in period one, Madison was unable to find the back of the net as a scoreless twenty took the game into intermission.
The Capitols came out flying at the start of period number two. On the first shift, Madison was able to find the back of the net with Miko Matikka finding the back of the net for his ninth of the season. Green Bay would answer two minutes later, but the Capitols came back on the other end with a 2-on-0 sequence with Nathan Lewis slamming home a rebound on his back hand to put the Caps back in the lead.
Green Bay once again was able to find the answer to even things at two aside. This is where the play would sit for what looked to be the rest of the period until Green Bay was able to find the back of the net one more time at the end of the second with under a minute to go in the period to take a 3-2 lead into the intermission.
In the third, the Gamblers scored 12 seconds in to take extend their lead to 4-2, which quickly became 5-2 two minutes later. Andrew Kuzma answered for the Capitols a minute later for his first with the team to bring the Capitols within two, but it was not enough as the Gamblers tallied another to make it 6-3 with nine minutes left. That would become the final score as the team falls 6-3 on night two of the two-game set.
The Capitols hit the road for the next five games before returning home to Madison on December 10th for a four-game home stand. Tickets for that four game home stand can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.Â
