Madison kicked off a two-game series with the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Friday night. Coming off of a loss on Wednesday, the Capitols looked to turn things around tonight.
In the first period, Muskegon got out to a hot start scoring four goals in the first. The Lumberjacks were able to do that with three of the four goals in the first coming on the power play. Miko Matikka's night ended just two minutes into the game due to a butt ending major penalty and game misconduct. Muskegon tallied two on the ensuing power play as well as one later in the period.
The two teams skated more evenly but with Muskegon striking for the first two goals of the middle frame. Following the two Lumberjacks goals, Jonah Aegerter found the back of the net for his fourth of the season.
The third period had the Capitols finding twine first with Andrew Kuzma picking up his third of the season on the power play to bring the Capitols within four. Muskegon earned their five-goal lead back prior to the Caps striking again with affiliated player Cole Lonsdale finding the back of the net for his first career USHL goal.
Muskegon added an empty-netter late in the game to take home a 8-3 victory. Madison falls to 5-10-1 on the season with a chance to bounce back tomorrow night in game two against the Lumberjacks. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:10 pm CT in Muskegon.
