Capitols Unable to Recover From Big Saints Second Period

The Capitols started a two-game road trip this weekend Friday in Dubuque. This was the second matchup between the two teams with the Capitols winning the first 5-3 at the end of September. Madison looked to play spoiler for the Fighting Saints home opener. Dubuque had arena renovations going on, so they started their post Fall Classic play on a six-game road trip.

Although quiet for the first fifteen minutes of the contest, the scoreboard lit up down the stretch of the first period. Dubuque found the scoreboard first, but their opening tally was quickly followed with a goal from Jack Musa. The seventh goal of the season for Musa comes the same week as he made his college commitment to UMass. The Caps weren't done in the first period, though, as Madison extended their lead to 2-1 by intermission number one. Goal number two for the Caps was scored by Quinn Finley, his fourth of the season.

The second period was a disappointment for the Capitols. Five goals were scored in the second, but the problem for Madison was that all five were scored by the Fighting Saints. Dubuque's first three goals in the second period came within 1:08 of game time of one another. Two more were added on throughout the rest of the period, as the Saints took a 6-2 lead into the second intermission.

Dubuque tallied a four spot in the third period to come away with a 10-2 victory. The Capitols face off against Chicago tomorrow night on the road with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 pm in Geneva.
