The Capitols started their last set of games during the 2022 calendar year on Wednesday night in Green Bay. Coming out of a weekend off, the team looked to start what could've amounted to a six-point weekend.
Madison never led in the game, as Green Bay took an early lead at 1-0. Miko Matikka tallied his 16th of the season to tie it back up at one with under five to go in the first. The Gamblers jumped back in front 2-1, but Nathan Lewis was able to retaliate on the other end for his sixth to even things at 2-2 heading into intermission number one.
Green Bay once again took a one-goal lead early on in the second period thanks to a goal on the man advantage, but Brendan Lamb was there to answer with his second of the season to tie it at 3-3 heading into the second intermission.
The Gamblers found themselves on the power play again early on in the third period, which they were able to strike to make it 4-3. Madison would not be able to find the equalizer during the remainder of the game. Green Bay put a puck in the net as time expired and skated away with a 5-3 victory.
Madison falls to 7-17-0-1 on the season and will wrap the 2022 calendar year up with two games on the road this weekend in Sioux City and Sioux Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Friday at Sioux City and 6:05 pm on Saturday at Sioux Falls.
