Capitols Snap Skid, Beat U-17's 6-1

The Capitols played in Michigan for the final of a five-game road trip against the National Development's U-17 team. Madison was in search of their first win in December, which was needed for the Capitols as the team has been in a losing skid as of late.

In the first period, Madison came out firing. Fans within USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth necks were sore as the Caps spent the near entirety of the first period in the offensive end. Outshooting the U-17's 25-6 in the first twenty minutes, the Capitols were also able to put up three goals in the opening frame.

Miko Matikka started the scoring on the power play. Then, it was Tyler Grahme striking for his first in the USHL. Madison was not done in the opening twenty as Jonah Aegerter scored on a deflection on a Trey Ausmus shot to make it 3-0 at the break.

Although Madison's offense was tamed in the second period, the Caps scored the lone goal in the middle frame coming off of the stick of Jack Musa, his tenth of the year. The goal put Madison ahead four heading into the third for the first time since the team's home opener against Dubuque.

In the third, Madison was able to score the first two goals to extend the lead to 6-0. The goals were scored by Max Nagel and Brendan Lamb. The Nagel goal was the third power play goal of the night for Madison. For Lamb, his goal was his first of the season.

The U-17's put up one in the final frame to break up the shutout, but that did not stop the Capitols from bringing home their first win in December. Rastislav Elias stopped 16 U-17 shots on Saturday night, with his one goal allowed being a season best for Capitols goaltenders with the next best being three goals against.

Madison ends the road trip on a positive note and comes home next weekend for four games in eight days at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Tickets for all Capitols home games can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
