Madison faced off against in-state rival Green Bay on Friday night in a stand-alone series. Green Bay had won the previous three matchups in the season series, which the Caps were in attempt to snap the Gamblers' streak.
Miko Matikka scored the games first goal in the first period to give Madison the early lead in the game. It was a rebound goal with Matikka going to the dirty areas to bury the goal. Green Bay answered later on in the period to force a 1-1 draw into intermission number one.
Green Bay found their first lead of the game in the second period with the Gamblers scoring the lone goal of the middle frame. The Gamblers extended their lead to 3-1 in the third. That's when Miko Matikka found point number 30 of the season to answer back and brink the Capitols back within one. The Matikka tally will arguably go down as one of the prettiest of the season.
Green Bay slammed home an empty-netter later on in the period to clinch a 4-2 win. Madison has a quick turnaround facing Youngstown on Saturday and Sunday at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Saturday and 3:05 pm on Sunday.
