Madison started a three-game weekend on Thursday night playing host to the US National Team Development Program. The game Thursday would be the only against USNTDP this weekend, as the Caps start a home-and-home against Chicago on Friday.
The Capitols jumped out all over the US in period number one. The team outshot the opponent 13-7 in the first period, but it was the opponent finding the scoreboard in the first. In a span of just 16 seconds late in the period, the U18 team was able to find the back of the net twice to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Team USA jumped out early in the second to extend their lead to 3-0. They would add another pair of goals before the Caps were able to answer with a goal of their own. They all count the same, but you will not see too many goals scored like the Caps first goal from Jack Musa. He scored from behind the goal line sent off the back of the U18's goaltenders head. The Caps would add another in the period on the power play off of the stick of Matt McGroarty.
Heading into the third down 5-2, Madison was unable to find a goal to close the gap. The US added one and takes home the stand alone game 6-2.
Madison is back at it again tomorrow night against the Chicago Steel. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Bob Suter's Capitols Ice Arena. Tickets are still available at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
