Caps Take Game One in Youngstown

The roster looks a little different for the Capitols heading into this weekend after a couple of big moves over the past ten days. This has not stopped the Capitols by any means, though. In fact, Madison has started to see efforts turn into results in the point column, and this continued again on Friday night.

The last time that the Caps visited the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, they were able to break the brooms out on the Phantoms. Madison did not take long to get back into the ways of their last visit in October with Jack Musa finding the back of the net thirty seconds into the game. Musa leads the team in scoring against Youngstown this season with the goal marking his seventh point against the Phantoms. The 1-0 lead held throughout the remainder of the first period and into intermission for the Caps.

The second period had the Capitols finding the scoreboard quickly again, this time, it was a Matt McGroarty breakaway that resulted in Madison doubling the lead to 2-0. For McGroarty, it was his fourth straight game with a point. He was not done finding the point column on Friday night, though.

In the third, Youngstown found the score column twice in the first half of the period to bring the game to a 2-2 tie. The Capitols found themselves on a pair of power play chances in the third and were able to take advantage of the second opportunity. For the second consecutive game, it was Jack Brandt putting the team ahead and into a lead that the team would never look back on. The goal was scored on a scramble chance out front on a rebound similar to his goal on Saturday night.

Jonah Aegerter put a cherry on top later on the period sending one into an empty net from his own defensive zone to make the Caps lead 4-2, which would become final minutes later. The Capitols improve to 9-22-1-1 on the season taking their second straight game on the road. Madison improves to 4-1-0-0 against Youngstown on the season and an undefeated 3-0-0-0 record at the Covelli Centre. The two teams are back at it again tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 pm ET.
