Game Recap

Caps Fall 3-2 to Cedar Rapids

The Caps opened the 2023 portion of the schedule on Friday night playing host to Cedar Rapids. This was the first matchup between the two conference foes during the 2022-23 campaign. Last season, Madison took nine points from the six matchups between the two playoff teams. Madison looked to try to do the same this season starting Friday evening.

Madison did not take long to find their first goal of 2023 with a play developing in the offensive end under a minute into the first period. Jan Olenginski riffled one toward the net, which was deflected by Quinn Finley to put the Caps up 42 seconds into the game. Chances were had by both throughout the rest of the period, but the scoreboard remained the same with Madison taking a 1-0 edge into intermission number one.

The second period lit the scoreboard up more than the first with Madison's Trey Ausmus starting things, burying his first of the season to extend the lead to 2-0 early on in the period. Cedar Rapids answered back with a pair of their own throughout the rest of period number two including one with eleven seconds left in the period. Following forty minutes of play, the score sat even at 2-2.

In the third, Cedar Rapids scored quickly to take a 3-2 advantage. Although the team had plenty of chances in the third, Madison was unable to convert as the team falls to 7-19-1-1. Madison is back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Cedar Rapids with puck drop scheduled to 7:05 pm.
