Madison Capitols Drew Steele

Caps Fall in Front of Near Sellout Crowd 5-3

Madison falls to 8-5-2-1 on the season.

The Capitols had their first ever Wine Night (Taylor's Version), which brought fans out in droves on Friday night. By the end of the night, it would be the Capitols third biggest crowd of the season and fifth straight game with over 2,000 people.

Max Nagel grabbed the game's first goal, which was the eighth time that Madison has been able to do so this season. The goal for Nagel extended the team's leading scorer's point total to seventeen on the year. Green Bay answered with a pair of their own towards the end of the period to give themselves a 2-1 lead at the first break.

In the second, a new-look first power play unit for Madison was able to find the back of the net with Jack Henry slamming one home on a one-timer. For Henry, it was his first USHL goal that tied it up for the Capitols in period two, but once again, Green Bay was able to grab the lead back before intermission number two.

Coming into the night, Green Bay was 9-0-0-0 when leading at intermission number two this year, and they pushed it to 10-0-0-0 by scoring a pair in the third period. Madison had a chance late in the game, but a goal from Austin Burnevik was too little too late.

Madison falls to 8-5-2-1 on the season, which is .500 on the year win-loss wise. The loss moves the Capitols to .500 or under for the first time this season after starting 4-0-0-0. The Capitols will have a chance to quickly respond to the loss as the team travels to Green Bay for the back end of the home-and-home series on Saturday night.

The game on Saturday starts the longest road trip of the season for Madison as the team won't return to Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena for the next two weeks when the Capitols host the Chicago Steel. The road trip spans four games, all against Eastern Conference opponents.

When the Capitols do return home, it's a Dollar Beer Night presented by Coors Light. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by heading to tickets.madcapshockey.com.
