The Capitols found twine in overtime and came away with two points from Sunday's contest against Cedar Rapids. Max Nagel was the goal scorer of the game winning goal, which earned him his fifth point of the weekend, third goal.
Madison held a 3-0 and 4-1 lead over Cedar Rapids at points in this game. Those leads evaporated when the RoughRiders were able to strike for four unanswered and grab the lead late in the third. The Capitols were able to battle back with the extra attacker on to force overtime on a Sam Rice goal.
Scoring for Madison in the 6-5 overtime victory were Aiden Long(4), Jack Henry(3), Austin Burnevik(16, 17), Sam Rice(4), and Max Nagel(13).
Aiden Long and Austin Burnevik each had one on the power play in the afternoon matinee. The goals came on the first two power plays of the game for Madison just a combined fourteen seconds into the two man advantages. The Capitols went 2/6 on the power play in the contest while holding the RoughRiders to a 1/4 margin.
Jack Henry had quite the game for Madison on Sunday, which included scoring for the second straight game. Henry now has recorded five points over his last two games and will most definitely be in consideration for the league's Defenseman of the Week title. He now leads Madison defensemen in points this season with fourteen.
Austin Burnevik extends his goal streak to four in the game striking twice for the third time in that stretch. The forward has stepped his game up exponentially since mid-November. In the team's last nine games, Burnevik has registered 17 points and twelve goals.
Although his overall save percentage may have dipped on Sunday, Patrick's Berzins snapped a five-game skid in net for Madison. The Latvian net minder started the season 5-1-0-0 on the year, but had struggled over his past five games coming into Sunday with a record of 0-3-2-0.
The Capitols will face off against Cedar Rapids at home for the final time this season on Saturday night. The game is the team's annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by Canopy Wealth Management and supporting RISE Wisconsin.
