The Madison Muskies returned to the Madison area on Friday night as the Capitols rebranded to the Muskies as part of the team's 2nd Annual What If Night presented by MG&E. The Muskies a historically good team during their existence had players like Jose Canseco and Tommy John dawn their uniform as a minor league affiliate of the Oakland A's.
For the Muskies of the ice, it was players such as Tyler Grahme and Rastislav Elias making an impact early on. Although, Muskegon was able to find the back of the net first, Elias was able to stop 17/18 first period shots from the Lumberjacks. The Capitols were outshot in the first, but would not be outscored as the Capitols were able to find the back of the net late in the period to even things at 1-1. The goal came off the stick of Tyler Grahme after Muskegon's goaltender was unable to contain a rebound.
The second period started off with an excellent power play for Madison. Although it did not result in any pucks in the back of the net, Madison established zone time and never let off. Following the man advantage, Muskegon tallied a trio of goals in the next handful of minutes. Jonah Aegerter answered for Madison to give the Capitols some life in the second. His seventh of the season made it 4-2 in favor of the visiting side.
Nathan Lewis opened the third period scoring to bring the Caps within one, but it was Muskegon from then on as they tallied a trio in the third as well. Madison falls to 9-28-1-1 on the season.
The Caps are back at home again on Saturday on Flannel Night presented by FlannelJax's. Tickets are still available for tomorrow night at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
