After an odd Friday night for Madison, they returned to the ice for the first time in a week on Saturday night. The Caps looked to continue the success they had in their most recent game against the RoughRiders in March.
They continued that success early on in the first as Thomas Weis found twine on the Caps lone power play of the period. It was the first goal for Weis of the season after joining the team in February. The Caps extended the lead to two with under a minute to go in the first with Jack Brandt tapping in a Nathan Lewis deflected shot. Madison took the lead and momentum into the first intermission.
That momentum that the Caps had heading into the second period was taken away quickly with the visiting side striking on the power play to get within one. Madison had chances throughout the second period offensively and were finally able to strike with a one-time bomb from Ethan Elias. Arguably, one of the prettiest plays of the season for Madison occurred on the goal with Kuzma and Nagel able to connect for the assists. The same two-goal lead remained in-tact as the Caps headed to intermission number two.
In the third, Cedar Rapids made things interesting after Aegerter extended the lead to 4-1. The RoughRiders came within one and were put on the power play. That's when Max Nagel found the highlight of the year for Madison throwing on the breaks and sending a RoughRider to the surface to bury shorthanded. Weis would add an empty netter for his second of the night to get the Caps a 6-3 win.
Madison improves to 13-38-2-1 on the season with another home game tomorrow afternoon. Tickets for the Caps afternoon contest against the USNTDP U-17s are still available on tickets.madcapshockey.com. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
