Madison went into Dubuque on Saturday night looking to force a series split with the Fighting Saints. The Capitols had taken points in two of their last three games and were on the prowl for win number fourteen of the season.
In the first period, similar to Friday night, the Capitols got on the board first. The first goal read the exact same on Saturday as the first goal on Friday as well with Jack Brandt burying a Matt McGroarty rebound. Madison would take the 1-0 lead into intermission for the second consecutive night.
Unlike Friday night, the Caps held strong throughout the second period. A trio of goals for Madison in the second period extended the Madison lead to 4-1 at intermission number two. Goals in the second were scored by Andrew Kuzma, Brendan Lamb, and Colton Jamieson. For Jamieson, the goal was his first of his USHL career in just his tenth game played.
The third period had the home side Saints showing their frustrations. The Capitols extended their lead to 5-1 on a McGroarty shot, which extended his team lead in goals to fourteen. Dubuque fought back to make it 5-3, but multiple ejections for the Fighting Saints resulted in a Capitols power play. On that man advantage, Ethan Elias extended the lead to 6-3.
On the Elias goal, Will Felicio picked up assist number 28 on the season, which sets a USHL record among 16-year-old defensemen. Felicio passes Rocky Welsing who had 27 with the 92-93 Caps.
The Caps took home the 6-3 win, which improves the team's record to 14-39-2-2 on the season. Madison continues the four-game road trip next week as they travel to Muskegon on Friday and Saturday.
