Looking to start a series off on the right foot for the first time since early December, Madison welcomed in the Tri-City Storm on Friday night in front of a sold out crowd. The three-goal victory against the Western Conference foe proved to be the biggest margin of victory since December 9th.
Patriks Berzins shined against his former squad on Friday night. He stopped 22 of 24 shots on net for his best statistical performance since early November. He has picked up wins in three of his past five games and points in five of his last seven.
Goals in the contest were scored by Delaney, Rullers, Brandt(2), and Kuzma.Â
The night proved to be a point night for some faces unfamiliar to the score column. Noah Barlage and Charlie Michaud both registered their first USHL multi-point game in the contest. Madison had twelve of its nineteen skaters record a point in the game.
Jack Brandt scored twice in the game for Madison, which brought his goal total to three on the season. The game marked his fourth multi-point game of the season.
Still in search of his first USHL goal, James Mackey can now say that he has a point in the league after assisting on the Chris Delaney first period goal. Mackey becomes the 29th Capitol to register a point this season, which includes all rostered skaters that have played in a game this season.
With his second period goal, Andrew Kuzma has now scored in three straight games. He has also found the back of the net in four of the team's last five games. The goal also marked his 30th goal in a Capitols sweater after joining the team last season.Â
Madison returns to the ice tomorrow night for game two of the series against Tri-City. It's the team's annual What If Night presented by MG&E. With that, the Capitols will be rebranding for the night to become the Madison Kodiaks, an IHL team playing from 1999-2000. The jerseys the team will wear are up for auction here: https://fans.winwithdash.com/auction/65b2c21b5afa0c0008a7807c
