The USHL has announced that James Hong has collected the Forward of the Week honor for his performance over three games last week.
Hong is in his first season with the Capitols after being acquired from Waterloo via trade last summer. He is currently second on the team in points and just six points away from 100 career USHL points in his career.
The Ohio State commit kicked off the week with a goal and an assist in Madison's 10-3 win over Green Bay. The goal in Wednesday's contest against the Gamblers came short handed and brought Hong into a tie for the league lead in that category.
Hong continued his success into the weekend with two assists in the Capitols 6-4 loss on Friday. The following night, Hong had a point on all three of the Caps' goals including scoring the game winning goal in overtime.
He extended a point streak through the three-game week for Madison to seven games. Exiting the weekend, he now has a streak of four straight games with multiple points as well.
This marks the third straight week that the Capitols had a player take home one of the league's honors, Berzins last week and Michaud two weeks ago. Hong becomes the sixth Capitols player, second forward, this season to take home one of the honors joining Patriks Berzins, Austin Burnevik(x2), Jack Henry, and Charlie Michaud on the active roster as well as former Capitols defenseman, Will Felicio.
The Capitols welcome in Hong's former team, Waterloo, on Friday night. Then, on Saturday, the Capitols welcome in Des Moines for a stand alone game. Both games will be the rubber matches for each season series this season with Madison winning in the USHL Fall Classic against both teams before losing on the road.
On Friday, the first 50 tickets bought through this link will get a Caps Scarf on top of a hot dog and soda included with the ticket: https://tickets.madcapshockey.com/events/26457-waterloo-blackhawks-vs-madison-capitols?promo_code=superfriday
