Following a playoff clinching performance on Friday night, the Capitols faced off against Youngstown on Saturday with a chance to pass the Phantoms in the standings. Although the Capitols would get outstanding goaltending from Patriks Berzins in goal, Madison ultimately fell 2-1.
After falling behind in the first period early on, the Capitols had a quick answer from Austin Burnevik to tie it at 1-1. For Burnevik, it was his 38th goal of the season assisted from line mates Gavin Uhlenkamp and James Hong who were reunited on Saturday night.
The score sat tied for forty minutes of gameplay before Ryan Botterill deflected one past Berzins to give Youngstown the lead with ten minutes left in the third period. The Capitols had some fight in them late in the game, but Madison was unable to find the back of the net to tie things before the buzzer rang.
Madison returns home on Friday and Saturday nights to face off against the USNTDP U17s. On Friday, it's a Dollar Beer Night presented by Coors Light, which will be followed by our annual Caps Carnival presented by TDS. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on both Friday and Saturday night. Tickets can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
