The Capitols announced on Tuesday that they have called
John Stout up to the team as an affiliated player. The defenseman joins the team after the conclusion of his high school hockey season with Minnetonka HS.
Over three seasons at Minnetonka HS, Stout recorded 67 points in 96 games for the Skippers. He led defenseman in points on the team during both his junior and senior seasons with the Skippers. During his junior season, the defenseman helped lead Minnetonka to the program's second state championship. This season, the Skippers did not lose a game during the regular season before falling in the Section 2AA championship to Chanhassen. Stout served as an alternate captain of the Skippers this season.
The left-shot defenseman was acquired in a trade earlier this season that sent
Will Felicio and a 2024 Phase II 7th to Waterloo in exchange for Stout, Tri-City's 2024 Phase II 4th, and future considerations. Stout immediately becomes the second tallest defenseman on the Caps roster at 6'2". He is committed to play his collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Joining the Capitols prior to his first year of NHL Draft eligibility, Stout is a highly touted prospect for selection this summer in Vegas. He is ranked 157th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting's Mid-Term Rankings. This puts him as the eighth highest ranked prospect that played high school hockey in Minnesota this season.
Stout is expected to make his Capitols debut on Wednesday and will wear number 18 with Madison.
Madison will take their four-game winning streak into Wednesday night's game against the Green Bay Gamblers. It's the rescheduled game from January 12th, so bring your mittens as it's our Mitten Toss presented by Alliant Energy. Tickets for all Caps games can be found online atÂ
