A record breaking night ended with five-unanswered goals for Sioux Falls to take home a 6-4 victory over Madison. The loss for Madison snaps a season-long five-game winning streak that started on February 24th against Dubuque.
Scoring for Madison in the loss were John Stout(1), Colton Jamieson(4), Jack Brandt(9), and Austin Burnevik(34).
Austin Burnevik tallied two points in the night to set the franchise's Tier 1 single-season record at 57 points. The previous record was held by Luke Mittelstadt's 2021-22 campaign at 55 points.
For John Stout, his goal is the first of his USHL career in his third USHL game, second with Madison. Stout made his Madison debut on Wednesday after the conclusion of his high school hockey season in Minnesota. He is a finalist for both Mr. Hockey, best senior player, and the Reed Larson Award, best senior defenseman, for his play at the high school level this season.
Early in the third, the Capitols held a 4-1 lead. Then, Madison gave up a goal just after Sioux Falls' second power play of the night, and the game went downhill after that goal for Madison. The Stampede won their third straight game while Madison drops a point further back of Youngstown, who lost in a shootout on Friday night.
The two teams will battle once again on Saturday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. It's Stick-2-Reading Night presented by LakeRidge Bank as well as Scout Night and Star Wars Night. Tickets are still available at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
