For the third time this season,
James Hong scored the overtime game winning goal for the Capitols. Madison improves to 24-20-4-2 on the season and moves to 5-4 in overtime this season.
The game winning overtime goal, which was assisted by
Andrew Kuzma, was one of three points on the night for Hong. The Ohio State commit now sits six points away from 100 in his USHL career.
Stopping 46 of 48 shots sent his way on Saturday night was
Carsen Musser. Musser's save percentage improved from .902 to .905 thanks to his efforts in the game. He had a save percentage of .958 in the game and a goals against average under two.
Austin Burnevik struck twice in the game for Madison to start the scoring. The pair of goals most importantly gave Madison a 2-0 lead at the time, but for Burnevik, he now has sole possession of the USHL lead in goals this season. Burnevik is now three goals away from the Capitols Tier 1 career record in goals, he's already set the mark for single-season goals in the franchise's Tier 1 history.
Madison will continue the home stand next Friday and Saturday night welcoming in Waterloo and Des Moines. The game on Friday will be the first time that Nicholas Fascia and
Will Felicio come back to Madison since being traded to Waterloo over the past year. Then, on Saturday, it's Madison's annual Cross-Check Cancer Night in support of the American Cancer Society.
