In a disappointing end to their season, the Madison Capitols fell short in an 8-4 loss to the Youngstown Phantoms. Despite a valiant effort, the Capitols struggled to contain Youngstown's offense, allowing them to jump out to an early 3-0 lead by the end of the first intermission.Â
Austin Burnevik provided a glimmer of hope for Madison with his second postseason goal, cutting the deficit to 3-1. However, Youngstown responded decisively, extending their lead to 4-1 by the second intermission.
The Capitols showed resilience in the third period, with
Max Nagel and
Diego Johnson scoring early to bring the deficit to only one goal. Yet, Youngstown proved too strong, answering with two goals of their own to seal the victory.
Max Nagel continued to shine for Madison, notching his fifth postseason goal to bring the Capitols' total to four. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Youngstown's offensive onslaught, resulting in a final score of 8-4 and the end of the Capitols' season.
The entire Capitols organization cannot thank the fans enough for their continued support of the team this season, which had the highest attendance since the return of the Capitols in the 2014-15 season.
Although the season may be done, we still encourage you to stay connected with the Madison Capitols on social media and the team's official website for the latest updates, news, and behind-the-scenes content as the team gears up for an exhilarating season ahead.
